Devlog #6 Progress update: January 2023

Happy New Year! It’s been a busy season, but here’s a bunch of updates from the past two months. ☕

[Overall progress]

The main story script has been written and programmed! (save for a small section I’d rather map out in a bigger resolution) I’ve already talked about it on Twitter but completing the script is actually a huge thing for me as I’ve never made anything of this scale before. So I’m very excited (and also kinda scared to death) to see how it will be received. 🥹

As a side note, I’m going to change the demo’s thumbnail sometime in the following weeks. The full release will have a separate page and I want to use the current thumbnail there. 😊 So, just a heads-up.

[Part One progress]

  • The big edits are done and put in the game. The only things left are basically proofreading (and a lot of it) and a small animated section I need to polish before the release. I’m also waiting for the last few music tracks to be finished.
  • I remade one of the CGs because it had too many mistakes and it was easier to draw it again than try to fix it. orz But it’s so much better now! I’ve improved quite a bit in the three years I’ve been drawing for the game. (this of course means that there are other CGs I’d like to remake but I’m not going to draw them all again ‘cause I’d go crazy) (i've spent too many hours fixing what's already in the game 🥲)
  • After some testing, I decided that the resolution of the game will be 1920x1080. 1280x720 looked alright in windowed mode but was kinda pixelated on full screen so I had no choice but to go all the way up. (yay? idk) (the images look nice and crisp but I’m worried about file size now) (I’ll try to optimize where I can but it’ll probably be heavy anyway) (the full three-part build is almost 400MB in 1066 so we’ll see…)
Overall, configuring the GUI in the bigger resolution was a bit of a struggle but it's mostly set up now. 🥲 The game got a lot more immersive and resizing resolved some space issues of the early build so it was probably the right thing to do. 😊
  • I’m still figuring out how to tackle backgrounds. The simplistic style is ok in my opinion, but sometimes I just wish for something cleaner, you know? 😖 I’ll probably stick with what I have and fix what needs to be fixed by hand.
  • All in all, everything should be ready to go very soon. ;A; I'm already starting to feel that pre-launch anxiety and worrying about all the things that can go wrong 🥲 i'm trying not to get my hopes too high, though, haha 😅
  • As for the release date, we’re looking at mid-February. I’ll post an update as soon as I can announce the exact date. 💕

As usual, visit my Twitter for more art, and feel free to share your thoughts. Bye! 🥰
