Devlog #3 GUI update

So I took a little break from writing this past month and decided to finally do something about my bland-ass GUI. ๐Ÿ˜„

Truth is, I've been putting off touching anything GUI-related for the longest time because it felt kinda intimidating. Not necessarily the visual aspect of it (though I admit I wasn't really sure what I wanted until just recently), but the coding itself seemed overwhelmingly complicated as I've got no experience in programming. ๐Ÿ˜– (the only thing I pushed myself to make were textboxes, and even those had some coding issues at first as they change depending on the scene)
But now that I successfully coded a bunch of minigames I got confident enough to tackle the GUI files and… Well, the learning curve was pretty steep, to be quite honest. But I watched this very helpful video on main menu customization and kinda figured it out from there. (spoiler: it took a lot of trial and error) Also, one hot tip from me: styles are your best friend. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I originally designed a purple game menu but it felt a bit off in the scenes with green textboxes (like those in the prologue, if you played the demo). So I decided to make two versions of the GUI to match the different textboxes. (because I'm overambitious like that and it'll come to bite me in the ass one day)(but actually, it makes a lot of sense as each side of the conflict has its own vibe, and different color themes emphasize this)

So, to show off some progress… This is the default renpy GUI I started from:

And here it is after the makeover. ๐Ÿ˜„ The Society's version:

And the Organization's version:

There are still changes to be made (I'm still unsure about the fonts etc.) but I'm planning to include this update in the extended demo when it launches on August 2nd.  (so quite a bit sooner than I initially thought ๐Ÿคญ)

So, that's about it. Feel free to let me know what you think. ๐Ÿ˜„

PS The main menu got a nice lift too, but I'm not going to spoil it for now. You can see it for yourself when the update launches. ๐Ÿ˜„
Also, make sure to follow me on Twitter for casual updates and more game art! ๐Ÿฅฐ
